AJ in the on-deck circle before his home run

I have been waiting for this moment since September 26, 2008, when he hit his 98th home run.  Ladies and gentlemen, AJ Pierzynski has hit triple digits in home runs.  I included the RBIs because that's pretty awesome that his 100th homer was also his 500th RBI.  The home run was hit in the bottom of the second inning on a 1-0 count with none on and no outs, giving the White Sox a 1-0 lead at that point.  It also snapped streak of 14 at-bats without a hit.
100! (jonathan daniel, getty images).jpgIn addition to hitting his 100th home run, AJ had an amazing day at the plate.  He went 3-for-4, scoring another run in addition to the one scored on the homer.  AND!  To top that all off, he threw out Adrian Beltre trying to steal second in the top of the seventh on a strike 'em out, throw 'em out play.  I'm sure you're all well aware that the White Sox are not known for throwing out would-be base-stealers.  So AJ throwing out Beltre is unexpected and incredibly wonderful.  In an interview with Hawk and Stoney after the game, he said he might be more excited about throwing out the runner than the home run.  In an interview with Carmen, Jurko, and Harry on ESPN1000, he said he wants to get to 114 career home runs so he can have more than hitting coach Greg Walker.  AJ, no worries.  Unless you plan on retiring, like, tomorrow, you've got that in the bag.  Listening to the ESPN1000 interview, he's pretty much hilarious.  I love it.
aj after 100 (jonathan daniel, getty images).jpgThere were highlights other than AJ in this afternoon's game.  Gavin Floyd was our starter, and he was a little bit off still.  It didn't seem like he had control of his curve ball.  Despite that fact, he still only allowed 3 runs in the game, all coming in the fifth inning.  Matt Thornton came on in relief and pitched a shutout inning, securing the win.  Scott Linebrink also pitched a shutout inning, and Bobby Jenks came in for the save, his fifth of the year.

Offensively, there were highlights too.  AJ's home run started off our scoring in the second inning.  The Sox didn't score again until the sixth, when Wilson Betemit drove in Paul Konerko on a double to right.  After Brian Anderson struck out, Alexei Ramirez hit a sac fly to center, which scored AJ.  But the offensive brilliance came in the seventh.  Carlos Quentin and Jermaine Dye hit back-to-back jacks after Josh Fields struck out to lead off the inning.  Our final run came on a Carlos Quentin single, which scored Alexei Ramirez.  Final score 6-3 Sox.  Yay.

There was a little downside in today's game other than Gavin being a little shaky.  In the seventh inning while checking a swing that was called a strike (booooooooooo), Brian Anderson injured himself.  Hawk was saying it was something with his right oblique.  Hopefully this doesn't mean any time on the DL since we're running low on center fielders.

Shout out to Melissa of Life and Indians Baseball through the Eyes of a Clemson Girl for correctly naming the song yesterday's blog title came from.  It was in fact Jewel's "Foolish Games."  Yay Melissa!

Finally: what's the significance of the title of this blog?  Sto means one hundred.  In Polish.

Yeah, I think I made a good choice voting for him for the All Star game.

Hehehe, 100 in Polish! That's great! Sounds like it was a really great day for your AJ...I know you loved the opportunity to write a whole entry about him, complete with pictures :) Congrats!!

By the way, the Rockies beat the Padres yesterday, thus taking the series. As a result, the Padres and their fans are not happy. The Padres fans don't like the Rockies to begin with, but this is just going to make it worse. I wouldn't want to be on the opposing side of the Padres' fans wrath, as it were. Not at all.

(oh yeah - the Padres are only 2.5 games behind in the NL West, and we might catch up even more this weekend against the Dodgers. The Rockies are 5.0 games behind. Gotta root for the team that's actually over .500 in the NL West!)

My my kaybee- yeah of little faith thinking the Rockies will not come up out of the cellar. Consider the series win over the Padres the ownership papers for the season. Jen why root for the Padres when the Rockies will not only cash in on the papers but bring out the broom for that series too? You want to be around winners right? Plus purple and black and are such more flattering colors then sand. Really, sand or camo?

Julia - I'm so adding that to my list of nicknames for AJ! Hahaha! I have, like, 20 for him...what's one more!

Emily - oh yeah. VERY good choice. :)

Kaybee - had to make it in Polish for my Polish prince hahaha! I'll take any good excuse to write mainly about my AJ. :) I kinda wanna see Padres wrath on someone incredibly drunk (that will not be me...I don't get plastered by myself since that's pretty much the sign of an alcoholic hahaha).

Tom - YES THE DEBATE IS BACK ON! Winners are wonderful, and you reminded me that I look damn good in purple and black. Appealling to the girly girl in me...damn what do I do with myself? Oh, I let you guys keep debating all weekend! Muahahahaha! :)

King - he's starting to heat up again, I think (I hope since I have him in our blogger league), so he should be a good pick up, even if you do hate him as most people do. :)

Are you kidding me Tom?? My Padres are totally going to sweep YOU guys!! It's called revenge, retaliation. You got to win your series at home, so we are going to win our series at home! GO PADRES!!
